One interpretation of these ink and marker drawings is as an abstracted representation and exploration of the relationship between individuals and the system(s) they comprise. I explore this relationship through the process of constructing the drawings themselves– deliberate, short lines and marks placed individually without regard for the finished composition. I try to minimize my individual control over a piece’s direction by regularly rotating the paper. This forced shift in perspective throws the composition off balance and thereby keeps me from adherence to a set pattern. As the drawing proceeds the results sprawls across the page however they may, a system of marks advancing by way of individual activity but just beyond the grasp of individual control.
