Bailey Mariner was born in Seoul, Korea and grew up in the small town of Berlin, Connecticut. She received a BFA in illustration from Massachusetts College of Art and Design and currently lives in Boston, MA. Rooted in her interest in both art and science, she finds herself illustrating plants and animals. She also enjoys traveling and documenting her trips around the world.
Bailey primarily works with ink and watercolor and uses these two mediums to compliment one another. She has a wide range of styles that vary from cute and whimsical to technically accurate. Her most recent style meticulously uses black ink to add texture and depth along with washes of watercolor to bring her illustrations to life. Like in nature, she creates a realistic image from afar, but up close the viewer is able to examine every stroke and color. Recently, she has become interested in scientific illustration and wants to explore this field.
