Dor Dourandi

I was born in Cameroon, Africa but the influential part of my growing up experience happened in NYC. I alway had a passion for art and photography, when I was about 5 I found my dad’s old camera and even though it wasn’t functional I would run around “taking photos”. I wanted to capture everything so I could remember all my experiences forever. Cameroon was bursting with colour but I never noticed till I moved to NYC where everything was cold grey. Like my surroundings I too soon changed due to being an outsider a foreigner and a victim of bullying. Art is what saved me, a cliche I know. I started drawing my feelings, hunger, sadness, uncertainty. I started drawing the things I liked, the people I liked, the things I liked to eat, the people I wanted to meet.

I’m just trying to find myself through art.
